Upcoming Intergroup event: Achieving the right to health of LGBTI people
On Wednesday 6 November, the LGBT Intergroup will co-host a high-level hearing on the challenges and obstacles lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people face in the field of health. For instance, an estimated 10% of persons accessing healthcare services are discriminated against by personnel because of being LGBT.
The event is co-organised by ILGA-Europe, UNAIDS and the Working Group on Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, and Development in the European Parliament. It aims to create a better understanding of adequate policy responses to guarantee the right to health of LGBTI people.
Several high-level speakers will present their views, including European Commissioner for Health Tonio Borg, and UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director Luiz Loures.
This seminar will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels, and will be open to the public. Guests must register no later than 30 October by e-mail at michael.cashman@ep.europa.eu.
