Upcoming event: 2009-2019: 10 years of LGBT rights – Successes, Failures, Challenges
On Wednesday 5 March, the LGBT Intergroup will host a discussion between MEPs, NGOs and EU institutions about the EU’s recent achievements and upcoming challenges in advancing LGBT rights. Registration is now open.
Between 2009 and 2014, the European Parliament and other institutions worked hard to advance and consolidate LGBT people’s rights. The rights of victims, free movement, asylum and foreign affairs all saw clear evolutions (or failed attempts at them). And now, the 2014 EP election will be pivotal to decide on LGBTI issues for the next 5 years.
Speakers will include Jean Lambert MEP and Sylvie Guillaume MEP (Asylum directives), Michael Cashman MEP (Cotonou Agreement), Elisabeth Tison, EEAS (LGBTI Guidelines) as well as representatives from ILGA-Europea, Transgender Europe (TGEU), Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
This seminar will take place in Brussels, and is open to the public. Guests must register online before Monday 3 March at 12:00 CET (noon).
