Council of Europe unanimously adopts Recommendation to combat LGBT discrimination

The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers unanimously adopted Recommendation 2010/5 on measures to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Recommendation is an official text adopted by the ministerial representatives of all 47 Council of Europe Member States. It is not legally binding, but constitutes an official position of the Committee of Ministers on the matter.

The adoption of the Recommendation was welcomed by the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, Thorbjørn Jagland.

All European Union countries are Member States of the Council of Europe.
