Open letter of support for Belgrade Pride

The Intergroup wrote today to Serbian authorities, welcoming the full authorisation given to Belgrade Pride, as well as their supporting the event. Among participants, EU Ambassador Vincent Degert and Member of the European Parliament Marije Cornelissen will take part in the march and address the assembly.

Logo Belgrade PrideIn their open letter, Presidents of the Intergroup on LGBT Rights welcomed the long-awaited pride parade in the Serbian capital. Following extreme violence in 2001, as well as a de facto ban in 2009, this is the first time lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists and friends will march openly and safely on Belgrade streets.

A number of authorities, including President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadić, pledged to let the march go ahead unobstructed, and protect its participants adequately from hate violence.
